blog #6- Silent Questions

Filed under: Uncategorized — emily3 at 5:26 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2008

2.  The derivation of the word prejudice is pre-judge. It means that you judge someone before you know someone of how you think they are by mostly appearance. I havent personally been pre judged but i have seen many people that have been prejudged by their height, weight, color of their skin and their sexuality.  I feel sickened by it, people plainly shouldnt be treated this way, it is just not right. it crushes people spirit and well being by being treated like that. People dont see what it does to a person when they judge them like they do. They dont think of the consequences of their actions. I have experienced seeing people being judged by their sexuality. They were  gay and my classmates kept getting in their face about their sexuality. I felt like this is just plain cruel, this shouldnt be happening to anyone in the world. I went up to the person who was being made fun of and took them somewhere peaceful so they can tell me how they feel. i made them feel better and went back to give the people my thoughts. People eventually told them before me so now they know not to do that anymore.

4. empathy is the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.  The last time i felt empathy for someone was when my friend wanted me to comfort her when her dad died. Being empathetic can go a bit far, people may think you are pittying them and they dont like that very much. Empathy can be dislike and liking like right now i am not liking this person who talked behind my back, which i feel hate empathy. If the world didnt have empathy then the world would be boring and no feeling in anyone.

6. i do think personal differences have caused friction with others, because some people just dont believe in what i believe in like equality in everything and i have met people that think not everybody should be treated equally which caused friction with them. i am never intolerant of the personal differences of others because i respect what they believe in, or what they are. i dont criticize what people want to believe in or what they want to be, sexuality and career. if someone was intolerant to a friend of mine i would go up to the person who is being intolerant and  get their reason for being intolerant, i would of course defend my friend but all others like my friend.

Have you ever lived in a place so long that you just want to get out of there as soon as possible? My family lived in Orlando Florida for about six years, from the end of 1993 to the summer of 2000. In the summer of 2000, my parents finally decided to move to another state, my mom couldn’t take the heat anymore and my father wanted a new job. So they put both their needs together and found a nice place to live. My dad got a job offer in Nampa Idaho, so my parents went to Nampa to check the place out. When they got their they couldn’t wait to tell us the news, they told us right after they got home. My siblings reactions was such excitement to move for some odd reason, it seemed like I was the only one that was furious of moving. Even though I didn’t like it, we had to start packing all of our things, and what we couldn’t take we had to sell.

After we got all our stuff packed and the rest of the stuff sold, we put all our boxes into trucks and started our trip. My family then started towards Inverness Florida where our Aunt Carol lives. Not much excitement, just stayed one more night with her. My family then headed to Atlanta Georgia where our Uncle Ronnie lives. WE visited Stone Mountain which was very earthy, coming from the name.

That took us two daysout of our trip so my parents only wanted to stop in one more place, Clarksville Tennessee, near where I was born. It was very lively, of coursewe couldnt stay long because we needed to start driving towards Idaho. The travel through the eleven states was quite boring, though we did see a lot of pretty plains, interesting animals plus we saw our first snow. We all felt so thrilled when we say our first snow, we totally forgot about the road trip. We went through Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah and finally Wyoming. When we got to Idaho, we were all very relieved to be done. Overall, we were all happy to be in a nice town where both our parents are happy.

BLOG#4-Text Messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?

Filed under: Uncategorized — emily3 at 4:26 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2008

My thought of Text Messaging is that it can be useful but you dont need to be on it all the time. Teenagers at school think they need to text during class or they will get bored. It seems that it is a priority to have texting. On average i might, send about 20 a day, but smartly i dont do it during class or school. Text messaging has some sort of compact on my writing, because i keep writing my words shortly instead of the right way of spelling them. It doesnt impact of  writing well because  i dont even text all that much so it couldnt impact my writing to be horrible. I just got to remember to write the words out the right way. The way text messaging has on communication is people thinking that they should text instead of talking, they think its a new way of talking.

blog#3-Independent Reading - New Understandings

Filed under: Uncategorized — emily3 at 10:32 am on Friday, April 11, 2008

During my independent reading of “shoot the moon” by Billie Letts, Gaylene Harjo’s son is now being disvovered alive. This strange visitor comes to visit the town of DeClare and apparently he is Gaylene’s son. It gets around the town seriously quick, since it is such a small town. A quote of Nick Harjo and his aunt talking about him telling her that he is Gaylene Harjo’s son.
” I’m trying to locate someone. I think seh might be realted to you.” “Who’s that?” “Gaylene Harjo” “Who the heck are you?” ” I’m not quite sure, but i think i might be her son.’ on page 30 of the book.

blog post #2 - blogs? whats a blog

Filed under: Uncategorized — emily3 at 10:50 am on Friday, April 4, 2008

A blog to me is some kind of information u would like to share with people. Most blogs that i have heard of are mostly on places where people react with each other. To me, computers are very comfortable to be on. Typically, on computers I go on sites with interaction with people, and look at images on photobucket. To me, writing is the way to express yourself, or tell a story about something that happend to you or something you are very passionate about. The kind of writing i like to do is very suspensful, or very informative about stuff i want to tell people. People are so concerned about how children use the internet because you never know what is on the internet, the internet is not a safe place for a child so young to be. The internet can be very dangerous but yet it can be very informative. My peers generally go on the internet to check their email either on yahoo, msn, or myspace. They could also look on photobucket to look for cool, funny pictures. I feel pretty good about the year ahead using blogs in lit class because i like writing on blogs. It is a good place to express stuff.

By Billie Letts
I chose this book because it has a murder tied into a story. The boys mother was killed and he mysteriously disapears thirty years later. This particular work caught my attention becausse it has mystery and suspense in it, I love reading those kind of books, they get my attention.518shs7mj4l_sl500_bo2204203200_pisitb-dp-500-arrowtopright45-64_ou01_aa240_sh20_.jpg
